What I love about the Capital Region is that you get the best of all worlds. You can enjoy the culture of urban life and step away when you need to soak in the beauty and serenity of rural living. You do not need to travel far to enjoy some of our many hiking trails. The best part is, you don’t need to commit an entire day for an outdoor excursion. Some trails can be done in an hour, and others, you can meander around all day if you want. Here is a list of a few of my favorite spots.
Capital Region Hiking Trail #1:
Peebles islandhttps://parks.ny.gov/parks/peeblesisland/maps.aspx. What I love about Peebles is its very accessible. Located just minutes from Albany. It’s a great trail for kids and the view of the waterfall makes it extra special. If you are looking for a nice place to have a picnic, Peebles has many spots where you can sit, relax and enjoy some lunch or a snack while you soak in the beautiful scenery.
Capital Region Hiking Trail #2:
If you have a little more time on your hands and want a more substantial hiking experience, check out Thacher State Parkhttps://parks.ny.gov/parks/128/details.aspx. Located in Voorheesville Just 15 minutes outside of Albany. The views are breathtaking and you will have a hard time believing you didn’t have to travel too far to experience the best that mother nature has to offer.
Capital Region Hiking Trail #3:
Travel north towards Lake George and check out Sleeping Beauty Mountain Trailhttps://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-york/sleeping-beauty-mountain-and-lake-george-trail. Lake George is well known for one of the most desirable nature getaways. This hiking trail happens to be one of the local favorites.
Capital Region Hiking Trail #4:
For smaller walking trails check out your town websites and click on the parks and recs tab. These trails are great for when you are looking to get out for some quick fresh air. For example, Clifton Park has many walking trails. Here is the link for their various trails.https://www.cliftonpark.org/departments/parks-recreation-community-affairs/preserves-trails/68-preserves-trails.html
