If you’re like most homeowners, hearing the term “DIY” sends a shiver down your spine. 😱 And, to be honest, there are some DIY projects that are best left to the professionals. Here are some things to consider…
First, check your city rules to make sure you don’t need a permit for whatever work you’re doing. A quick call to the building department will get you started off on the right foot. And if you live in an HOA, be sure to check your CC&R’s too!
Second, determine how much the project is going to cost to see if it fits in with your budget. I can’t even tell you how many clients I’ve seen start a DIY project only to find that it was a lot more expensive than they thought!
Third, determine the scope of work involved. Just because your favorite HGTV personalities make DIY projects look simple, it doesn’t mean they actually are. There are any number of things that can and do go wrong behind the scenes in any one of these hour-long segments. Working beyond your skill level can be both extremely dangerous and costly.
